ELA7 Poetry: Figurative Language: Alliteration

Figurative Language: Alliteration

Alliteration is when two or more words that start with the same sound are used repeatedly in a phrase or a sentence. The repeated sound creates the alliteration, not the same letter.

Examples:

Clara closed her cluttered clothes closet.

Harry hurried home to watch football on TV.

Rachel ran right until she realized she was running round and round.

Polly's prancing pony performed perfectly.

The boy buzzed around, as busy as a bee.

Alliteration in a poem:

Passing Period

Backpacks bounce as bellows blare the bell,
Sneakers slap floors in a frantic farewell.
Papers puff past in a panicked parade,
While lockers lock loud in a lunchtime charade.
Made it!” I mutter, with moments to spare,
Breathing big breaths in my squeaky-clean chair!

Go Bulldogs!!
