ELA7 Poetry: Figurative Language: Metaphor

Figurative Language: Metaphor

metaphor is a figure of speech that implicitly compares two unrelated things, typically by stating that one thing is another.

Metaphors can be used to create vivid imagery, exaggerate a characteristic or action, or express a complex idea.

Examples:
You’re a monster!

The exam was a piece of cake.

This town is a desert.

The king ruled with an iron fist.

Metaphors in a poem:

First Day

A backpack’s a treasure chest, bursting with gold,
While pencils are swords, brave and ready to hold.
The hallways are rivers where friendships can flow,
And lockers are puzzles we’re learning to know.
With dreams in our pockets and shoes tied up tight,
We sail into school — adventure’s in sight!

Go Bulldogs!!
