ELA7 Poetry: Figurative Language: Personification

Figurative Language: Personification

Personification is a type of figurative language in which non-human things are described as having human attributes

Examples:

The car coughed and wheezed as it pulled into the garage.

The loquacious alley cats kept us up all night.

The chair groaned with relief as the large man stood.

The door’s hinges screamed as I pushed it open, alerting the rest of the room that I had entered.

The fishing bobber happily splashed in the water.

Personification in a poem:

The Football Game

The field wakes up, its grass blades standing tall,
While bright lights cheer and sparkle over all.
The football dances, soaring through the air,
As goalposts wave their arms without a care.
The crowd hums loudly, singing out with pride,
While Friday night comes alive on every side!

Go Bulldogs!!
